Launch and Inaugural Workshop

The UK-EOF Framework publication, detailing the concept, aims and outcomes (UK Environmental Observational Framework) was launched on Thursday 17 July 2008, key speakers at this event included:

  • Professor Bob Watson, Chief Scientific Adviser, Defra
  • Professor Alan Thorpe, Chief Executive, NERC
  • Professor Maggie Gill, Chief Scientific Adviser, Rural Affairs and Environment, within the Scottish Government
  • Doug Wilson, Head of Monitoring and Assessment, Environment Agency

After the launch a workshop was held, which covered:

  • What is the observation community and what are the issues?
  • What observations do we need to manage the environment?
  • Some inspiration for finding solutions

The principal recommendation from both the workshop and review was that an overarching strategy and vision were needed for UK environmental monitoring.
