Gridded Data

What is gridded data and how can it be used?

Climatic data provides evidence to help us understand changes to our environment such as changes in the distribution of certain species of animal. This type of data is increasingly in demand by researchers and scientists across the UK and abroad to help support their observations.

The Met Office collects vast amounts of climatic data from thousands of sites across the UK. The data can be adjusted using various techniques. When the effects of topography and other variables are introduced, values can be suggested for the surrounding areas where stations are not present.

Some gridded data and products derived are available on the Met Office website. Further information about these may be obtained by emailing the Met office.
