Data Initiative - Think Tank

Sharing Environmental Observation Data - a Think Tank led by Bob Watson, London 9 September 2008.

Professor Bob Watson, Chief Scientific Adviser of Defra and the champion of the UK Environmental Observation Framework (UK-EOF), led a think tank style discussion on the issues surrounding the effective sharing of environmental observation data in the UK.

The meeting acknowledged that the barriers to wider data sharing are complex and require resolution at senior government level. They also noted that adopting initiatives such as INSPIRE will help, but that these will not address all the issues.

Working with the INSPIRE, SEIS and Location Strategy teams, UK-EOF will now develop a business case to address these challenges. A briefing paper 'Sharing Environmental observation Data - the Issues' sets out the main issues facing the environmental observation community. Presentation slides from the meeting and the Note of the meeting are available to download.

The Think Tank's list of actions will be incorporated into UK-EOF Data Initiative.
