Field

Description

Type of field

Name

The official title of the monitoring record

Plain text

Alternative name

Alternative name(s) by which the monitoring might be commonly known

Plain text

Description

This is an abstract or summary of the monitoring feature. Providing a short, detailed description will help users identify and understand the activity in the context of related monitoring programmes or environmental domains.

Plain text

Facility Type

(for Facilities only)  The type of facility described by the record  (choose from the drop down). The options are:

  • Site (e.g. a nature reserve or catchment area)
  • Station (e.g. an automatic weather station)
  • Sensor (e.g. an anemometer)
  • Platform (e.g. a satellite)

Dropdown

Objectives

A detailed description of the main objectives/aims of the monitoring being undertaken.

Plain text

Identifier

An identifier uniquely identifying the monitoring record in a specific context. For example a data publisher might assign an identifier that they use in their internal systems and UKEOF might have a different identifier used for their own purposes.

Plain text

Lifespan

The date(s) over which the monitoring took place. Dates should be entered in the format YYYY-MM-DD. If a specific day is not known, enter 01 for the day (e.g. for September 2010 enter 2010-09-01). If a specific month is not known, enter 01 for the month (e.g. for 2012 enter 2012-01-01).

Date

Responsible Party

An organisation or individual that is the point of contact for further information about the delivery and/or funding of the monitoring. Multiple responsible parties can (and indeed should) be added.

Lead organisation
The organisation responsible for the delivery of the monitoring and the responsible for updating the catalogue
Lead funder
The organisation providing the majority of the funding for the monitoring
Funder
An organisation (other than the lead funder) providing funding for the monitoring
Other
another organisation (other than the Lead Organisation) involved in the delivery of the monitoring

Online Resource

Websites and other online locations which contain more information about the monitoring activity.

Plain text

Link To Data

Websites and other online locations where the data can be accessed. Component Description Exa

Plain text

Supplemental info

This is a free text element is which you are free to include any additional information regarding the monitoring which you think may be beneficial to users of the catalogue but which may not fit elsewhere

Plain text

Observing capability

(not currently in use)

Operational period

FOR FACILITIES ONLY: The date(s) over which the monitoring facility was operational. Dates should be entered in the format YYYY-MM-DD. If a specific day is not known, enter 01 for the day (e.g. for September 2010 enter 2010-09-01). If a specific is not known, enter 01 for the month (e.g. for 2012 enter 2012-01-01).

Date

Result acquisition source

This is included for compliance with INSPIRE regulations and is not currently used by UKEOF

Dropdown

Measurement regime

The frequency with which observations are made.

Dropdown

Use limitation

Restrictions on using the information contained in the record. If no specific use limitations are included then it is assumed that the information provided will be made available under the Open Government Licence (see http://www.ukeof.org.uk/catalogue/conditions)

Plain text

Access constraint

Access constraints applied to assure the protection of privacy or intellectual property, and any special restriction or limitations on obtaining the information in the record

Plain text

Legal Background

A range of legislative drivers may apply to a programme/activity. These may be national or international. Please enter the full name of the legislative driver followed by the directive number. If possible, include the URL to the official online version of the legislation provided by the relevant government (UK/EU).

Plain text

Bounding Box

FOR PROGRAMMES/NETWORKS AND ACTIVITIES The smallest rectangular shape which defines the geographical area covered by the monitoring feature. For example, a bounding box around Wales would indicate that the monitoring takes place across the whole of Wales but not the rest of the UK.

Bounding box

Geometry

FOR FACILITIES The location of the monitoring site/station. This can be a single point on a map or a more complex polygon (for example to define the boundary of a nature reserve or catchment area).

Geometry

Representative point

Sometimes the location of a monitoring facility cannot be given – for example if the location is not accurately known, the facility is mobile or its exact location is confidential. In such cases the representative point element should be set to YES.

  • NO = this is not a representative point, in other words the geometry provided is accurate
  • YES = the geometry provided is only representative

Dropdown

Spatial Resolution

This is a measure of the degree of confidence in the geometry provided (in metres). For example a value of 100 means that the point/area you have provided is accurate to within 100 metres. A value of 10000 means it is only accurate to within 10km

Plain text

Mobile

If the facility is not fixed to a single location on the earth's surface (eg a cruise ship), complete this field. The majority of facilities are static and you can ignore this field.

  • TRUE = The facility is mobile
  • FALSE = The facility is stationary (or geostationary)

Dropdown

Keyword Group

Keywords or phrases that categorise the record and which will help users search. Include parameters measured, collective terms, common names and scientific names if they apply. Where possible, please choose from the suggested keywords which are linked to controlled vocabularies such as GEMET.

Suggestion

Topic category

The main theme of the monitoring. This is included for compliance with INSPIRE regulations and is not required by UKEOF

Dropdown

Environmental domain

The environmental domain(s) which the monitoring occurs in or is relevant to monitoring . Multiple entries can be added if applicable. See http://onto.nerc.ac.uk/EF/environmentalDomain for definitions

Dropdown

Purpose of collection

The reasons identified as to why monitoring is taking place. Multiple entries can be added if applicable. See http://onto.nerc.ac.uk/EF/purposeOfCollection for definitions
